Connecticut Lift Systems: Making Home Care Easier

“When Dad started getting sick, I knew I was in for a hard time.” Marianne J. is a small woman, barely five feet tall. If she’s had a huge lunch, she might tip the scales at a whopping one hundred and twenty pounds. Her father, on the other hand, is close to three hundred pounds. “I promised him I’d take care of him. But was that really possible?”

Marianne struggled valiantly to help assist her Father with all the tasks of daily living. “As his condition got worse and worse, things he could do before – get out of bed, move across the room – just weren’t possible. But moving Dad on my own? It was a recipe for disaster.” She winced at the memory. “We had a terrible fall, and I wound up with a sprained ankle!” Ironically enough, it was an ER nurse who provided the solution to Marianne’s problem. “She told me about lift systems that can be used at home. Now I can help Dad out – without having to pick him up!”

Connecticut Lift Systems

Lift systems provide mechanical assistance so people like Marianne can safely and securely help the people they love move around.  Lift systems can be used in a number of ways.  Some lift systems are used to help people in and out of bed, in and out of wheelchairs, and to facilitate moving within the home.  Lifts are available to help people in and out of swimming pools and onto horses.  “It’s astonishing!” Marianne said. “Not that my Dad is about to go swimming, but knowing that the technology exists if we needed it?”  She shrugged. “It’s a huge weight off my shoulders.”

Connecticut lift systems have allowed Marianne to keep her promise to care for her father at home. Families who are in a similar situation should explore the range of lift systems available. They reduce the burden of caregiving, facilitate independence, and make living at home longer safer for everyone.
