“You can learn new things at any time in your life if you’re willing to be a beginner. If you actually learn to like being a beginner, the whole world opens up to you.”

We could be forgiven, perhaps, for thinking we knew a thing or two as we approach our golden years. After all, we’ve had careers. We’ve raised the kids – and maybe even the grandkids! If anyone can say “Been there, done that!” it should be us.

But it turns out that aging can throw some curve balls at us. Some of these aren’t entirely unexpected. We’ve seen our parents and our grandparents struggling with arthritis, bursitis, and sciatica – but it’s still a bit of a shock when we develop these conditions ourselves. Suddenly it’s a lot harder to move around with the speed and ease we’re used to. We’ve seen our parents and grandparents wear thicker and thicker glasses as time goes by – but it’s still a shock when we discover that due to diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts or glaucoma that we can’t necessarily see as well as we used to.

How are we supposed to handle this? We can look to our parents and grandparents for guidance – but we also have to be realistic. The truth is that we’re living longer than our parents ever contemplated as possible. We have more active lives. How many people do you know that retire completely at age 65 anymore? Seniors are working, volunteering, teaching, and guiding young lives with a fervor and enthusiasm that previous generations just weren’t prepared to do. But in order to do this, we’ve got to be able to keep moving.

The stairs can be a problem – a big problem. Did you know that slips, trips, and falls on the stairs are a leading cause of injury and death for seniors? It’s true. Connecticut stair lifts are one innovative way that today’s seniors can enjoy the total use of their home – even if they have the same troubles with arthritis, bursitis, or vision that troubled their parents.

The secret is in the Bruno Stairlift technology. Available for straight and curved rail staircases, a Connecticut stair lift will let you glide from floor to floor with a simple push of a button. It’s safe and easy to use -even when the power’s out! Don’t limit yourself – or your senior years! Learn more about Bruno Stairlifts today!

Being a caregiver is tough, demanding work. This is especially true for family caregivers, who often have the responsibility of full time employment as well as managing the household on top of care giving. It’s emotionally and physically taxing. Here at Lift and Care Systems, we’re devoted to providing the best in tools and technologies to make care giving easier. This makes life better for everyone.

One example of a tool that can make care giving easier is the Surehands Lift System. In Providence, lift systems are used in many clinical settings: you may have seen lift systems in use at the hospital, skilled nursing facility, or at physical therapy. Surehands lift systems provide a safe, dependable, reliable way to transport your loved one from one location to another without the need for you to physically lift them yourself. This is good news for your back, neck, and joints, and it’s good news for your loved one: there’s much less chance of accidental drops, slips, or injury when a Surehands lift system is in use.

There are emotional benefits as well to using a Surehands lift system in Providence. Surehands lift systems are strong. You can rely on them to work safely and dependably. After a day when you’re already exhausted from other responsibilities, it is a relief to be able to trust the Surehands lift system to do the heavy lifting. The peace of mind is good for your loved ones as well. They may never say a word to you about it, but they worry about being dropped and injured. They worry about what caring for them does to you physically. They don’t want to be responsible for your hurt back or sore muscles. By removing the physical task of transporting from the care giving equation, Providence Surehands lift systems benefit everybody.

The statistics are 2% of family caregivers under age 50; 6% of those aged 50-65 ; and 23% of those older than 65 are spousal caregivers. It makes a total of about 6 million of us, friends, family and neighbors, all engaged in the same battle. How do we hold onto our feelings of love and compassion when we’re faced with work that never ends? The bills don’t disappear when our loved one gets sick – if anything, they get larger. The emotional burden of caregiving is huge; the physical burden doesn’t have to be.

MA Stairlifts: Making Caregiving Easier

As we look at the statistics regarding caregiver age, one thing becomes immediately clear. The vast majority of caregivers are fifty years old or older. Even if you’ve kept fit and healthy your entire life, it’s still challenging to help your loved one transfer from their bed to their wheelchair, in and out of the tub, or across the room. Going from floor to floor in the home can be difficult as well. Many falls happen when we’re trying to help a loved one go up and down the stairs safely. Both people can wind up hurt in a bad fall – and who is going to care for the caregiver?

MA Stairlifts are one answer families can use to reduce the physical burden of care giving on one spouse. Rather than assisting or even carrying your spouse up the stairs, you can simply have them sit in one of the comfortable Bruno Stairlift chairs. All it takes is a simple press of a button and you can go upstairs or down as you see fit!

Between Passover and Easter, this is a busy weekend for many families in MA, CT, and RI. The holidays are a time for all the generations to come together. We share special meals and continue building our traditions. It is a time to celebrate.

It is also a time to be aware. Many of us have family members who are getting older. They may use walkers or wheelchairs to get around; in their home, they may have a stairlift or vertical platform lift to move smoothly and easily from one floor to another. Illness and injury can result in younger family members having mobility issues. They may use a wheelchair, walker, or cane to get around.

When you’re planning a family gathering, you want to make sure it’s easy for all of your family members to get in and out of your home. This is more than simple courtesy and hospitality. You want to reduce the chance of slips, trips, and falls that result in injury. Why have your holiday ruined by having Great-Aunt Agnes break her hip on the stairs?

National Ramp System wheelchair ramps are a safe, dependable, reliable and cost-effective way to create safe accessibility to your home. Available in MA, CT, and RI, National Ramp Systems are made of durable heavy duty aluminum: great for all four seasons in New England! National Ramp Systems wheelchair ramps are easy to install, and easy to remove. You may want a National Ramp System temporary wheelchair ramp for family gatherings and events, especially if you entertain regularly.

Many of us are in situations where our parents or in-laws are moving in on a permanent basis. In this instance, having a National Ramp system wheelchair ramp installed can help make access easy from day one.Want to learn more? Contact us!

LaKay Williams is five years old. She was born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. With a lot of hard work, she’s been able to walk using a walker. However, after a fall in the school parking lot, LaKay is not allowed to use her walker at school, according to this Today show story. The Texas school district prefers LaKay to use a wheelchair. LaKay’s mother Kristi is fighting the school board to allow her daughter to use her walker.

We’re not in the position to say what’s best for this child. We are, however, in the position to say what’s best for every child in this world who has mobility issues: improved accessibility. Kristi knows what so many of us know firsthand. It’s not easy for children to learn to use a wheelchair. It’s not easy for children to learn how to use a walker. It’s not easy for anyone. Falls are inevitable.

Falls are inevitable for children in general, actually. Watch kids on a playground sometime. You won’t have to be there long before you see a child slip, trip, stumble or fall – even children who aren’t using a walker or wheelchair!

Making the world safer for all of our children should be a top priority. In Boston, ramp systems and other adaptive technologies have been used to ensure kids can get where they want to go: school, museums, restaurants and shops, libraries, and of course home. But it’s not always easy for kids who use wheelchairs and kids who use walkers to make their way around. There are places that need Boston ramp systems.

Life doesn’t offer us many cut-and-dried solutions. It’s not always easy to tell what’s in a child’s best interests as they learn and grow. The decision to use a wheelchair, a walker, a cane, or other adaptive device can be complex. That’s why parents and treatment teams work so closely together to make choices for children to support and promote mobility and independence. Improved accessibility is essential to help LeKay and kids like her get everywhere they want to go.

Do you know where most seniors want to live? According to research done by AARP, the vast majority of older Americans want to stay in their own homes as they age. Staying home is the housing option of choice for nine out of ten seniors. AARP also looked at the elements of housing that make it difficult for elders to age in place.

Falls, slips, trips, and other mishaps are the leading cause of injury and death for seniors. The stairs are an especially perilous area. Ascending and descending the stairs safely becomes harder when health and vision concerns crop up. Common conditions such as arthritis, gout, bursitis, and diabetes can impact the balance. Deteriorating vision can be due to glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, or similar condition.

According to AARP, three-quarters of professional remodelers are seeing requests for renovations designed to help seniors live independently. In Southeastern MA, stairlifts are a popular, cost-effective way to help seniors live independently longer. The Southeastern MA Stairlift of choice is the Bruno Stairlift, which can be used by anyone who wants a safe, reliable, easy way to be transported from one floor to another. All you have to sit in the seat and press a button for a smooth, comfortable ride.

There are several models of Bruno Stairlift, suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. Bruno stairlifts can be installed on straight staircases and on curved staircases. No matter what independent living challenges your home may contain, we’ll help you find the best solution. Independent living is the goal for most of us. We want to be able to spend our senior years in the homes we’ve enjoyed for so many years.

If you’re looking for ways to stay in your home safely, give us a call. We’re your Southeastern MA Stairlift expert, and our goal is to help promote your independent lifestyle!

Providence is a beautiful city. It’s unique in Rhode Island particularly for its mix of building styles and architecture, modern and traditional structures side by side. There are many, many houses that have two or more stories, as well as apartments that can only be reached by ascending a staircase.

If you’re a senior who has difficulty navigating the stairs, or a person with mobility issues, this can make life challenging. The fear of falling is very real. Falls, slips, trips and misadventures are among the leading causes of injury and death in our region. If you don’t have the greatest balance or vision, going up and down the stairs is perilous.

When people are afraid they are going to fall down the stairs, they stop using the stairs, or they avoid the stairs as much as possible. This can mean living life confined to a single floor in the home. You may see seniors sleeping on the couch or in a living room chair – because they don’t want to risk ascending the stairs to their bedroom. This is especially common when the bedroom is on one floor and the bathroom another.

Providence Stairlifts: How They Can Help

Bruno stairlifts are a safe, proven effective technology that seniors and people with mobility issues can use to move safely from one floor to another. Rather than climbing the stairs, you sit in a comfortable chair that glides quietly and quickly from one floor to the next. It’s safe and easy. You can use a Bruno stairlift day or night. Quiet operation means you won’t disturb other family members!

There are a number of Bruno stairlifts available to suit and complement the look of your Providence home. Bruno stairlifts can be installed on straight or curved staircases. There are Bruno staircases designed for outdoor use: great for the senior who wants to enjoy our vibrant town!

Just as we thought spring was right around the corner, Mother Nature decided to send more winter weather our way. Back to back storms have delivered dramatic weather throughout the region. If you work in the group home setting, you know that this is the type of weather that can lead to resident or staff trips, slips, accidents, or injuries. It doesn’t take a lot of snow or ice to make entering or exiting the facility potentially perilous. One particularly vulnerable point is the group home wheelchair ramp.

Every group home needs a safe, secure, dependable wheelchair ramp to facilitate entrance or exit. Winter weather is tough on wheelchair ramps. The ice, moisture, snow, and any salt and sand used to clear the ramp can be brutal, especially on wooden ramps. National Ramp System wheelchair ramps are designed to stand up to all four seasons of Rhode Island weather. The durable aluminum construction stays strong when the summer sun is brutal and hot and the winter wind is biting cold.

National Ramp System wheelchair ramps are designed for both permanent and semi-permanent installation. A National Ramp System wheelchair can be installed at any time during the year – you don’t need to wait for spring to actually arrive! The benefits of National Ramp systems includes their incredible strength (capable of supporting 850 pounds) and durability. A low cost, low maintenance resource for the Rhode Island group home.

Is a National Ramp System wheelchair ramp right for your Rhode Island group home?
