Ability without dependability has no value!

Happy Valentine’s Day! This is the most romantic day of the year. We love to be in love. We’re passionate people – and if there’s one thing we’re passionate about, it’s wheelchair ramps that actually do the job they’re designed to do!

Let’s face it. Not all wheelchair ramps are created equal. You don’t need to be using a chair for long before you find yourself confronted by one of life’s biggest challenges – sub-standard wheelchair ramps. You know the type: ramps that are too narrow, or that don’t seem strong enough to hold up the weight of a person and a wheelchair, or that become almost impossible to use when it rains or snows or gets icy. Homemade ramps are particularly prone to problems. People have the best intentions but these ramps are often pitched too steeply, angled incorrectly, and not designed to stand up to the elements.

Rhode Island National Ramp System

Does any of this sound familiar? This Valentine’s Day resolve to leave the heartbreak behind. It’s possible – and surprisingly affordable – to find a wheelchair ramp that is safe, secure, easy to install, and designed for all four seasons. National Ramp Systems are the answer! These ramps are designed for everyday use by people who use wheelchairs. They’re wide enough to use comfortably, and pitched correctly. Durable aluminum construction means safety and security – and no matter how cold winter may be, the National Ramp System wheelchair ramp doesn’t flex, bend, or twist!

There are other benefits to National Ramp Systems wheelchair ramps. These ramps are easy to install, and easy to remove. If you’re raising a child who uses a wheelchair, you can purchase this ramp confident that when the time comes, your child can take the ramp to their next home or apartment! National Ramp Systems wheelchair ramps are built to last and tough enough to do the job day in and day out. That’s a wheelchair ramp you can fall in love with!

Are you in the mood for a great, heartwarming story? Check out this tale about Regino Gonzalez. The Texas teen has an aggressive form of bone cancer, which means he has to use a wheelchair. He’d always had a dream of a career in law enforcement, and this week, the Weslaco police department gave Regino a chance to see what things were all about. He was sworn in as a honorary officer for the day, got a chance to practice on the shooting range, and went on patrol with two officers. Those officers even told Regino about a police officer they knew who chased down criminals – while wearing his prosthetic legs.

“Absolutely they can still continue their dream of being a police officer,” Department Spokesman Rodriguez said.

It’s stories like this – and the amazing progress that has been made in adaptive medical equipment, prosthetic technology, and our society – that show us that you never know what is possible until you try. Some times, the difference between being able to realize your dream and not being able to realize your dream comes down to access and technology. Something as simple as having a wheelchair ramp installed in the home can make it possible for someone to easily engage with the world, whether that means attending classes, on the job training, or vocational opportunities.

MA: Wheelchair Ramp Installation

In MA, the best wheelchair ramp choice comes from National Ramp System. These durable aluminum ramps are designed to stand up to all four seasons of weather – from blistering summer heat to the coldest winter! Easy to install, and removable, these portable ramps can move with your family. That’s important to know if you’re chasing a dream: wherever your career aspirations may take you, you’ll have the safety and security of a National Ramp System.

In the article, Interim Chief Michael Kelley said he was glad the department had invited Gonzalez in for the afternoon.“We figured that we can take time out from the day to make somebody’s day a little better,” he said.

“It’s completely up to you!” Business philosopher Seth Godin recently shared his experience on his blog. He was choosing the mat board to be paired with a photo he was having framed. The frame shop attendant put the decision wholly in Seth’s hands. It was up to him to select what color mat, what texture, what finish – all the choices were his. Godin termed this choice “Scary” and had this to say:

So many things are now completely up to us, more than ever before. Where and how and when we work and invest and interact and instruct and learn…

Connecticut Lift Systems: How To Choose

If this much angst and distress can result from a choice as ultimately inconsequential as choosing a mat board, how stressful it must be to select a Lift System without support and guidance. People who have limited mobility rely on lift systems to make it easier to move around the house and perform the tasks of daily living. Surehands Lift Systems are one of the nation’s most well-known and respected brands of lift systems. There are many types of lift systems, each suited to help someone with a specific mobility need.

Here at Lift and Care Systems, we don’t believe you need to make the decision about what lift system is best for your family’s needs entirely on your own. We go the extra mile to be sure we’re completely and thoroughly informed about all of the Connecticut lift systems we offer. We want you to have all the information you could possibly want when you’re choosing among different types of lift systems. We think you’re better served when you can have all your questions answered! We won’t shrug our shoulders and say “It’s completely up to you!” We’ll be there, doing everything we can to help you make an informed decision that makes your life easier and safer.

Stop! Before you sign any contracts or make a major purchase regarding home medical equipment, take the time to check the facts. That advice for Rhode Island seniors comes in the wake of an increasing wave of reports from seniors sharing how they’ve felt pressured into bad purchases.

Many people have health conditions which make it difficult to use the stairs safely. A high number of these people are seniors. The obvious solution to this problem is stairlifts: these mechanized devices allow people to enjoy the full use of their home without needing to climb the stairs. This reduces the risk of fall and injury.

However, not all stairlifts are created equally. Seniors are often targeted by less than scrupulous vendors who provide inadequate equipment, charge inflated prices, and won’t stand behind their installation work or maintenance agreements.

How can you make sure that when your older loved one chooses a stairlift, they’re getting a reliable piece of equipment at a fair price from a reputable vendor?

Rhode Island Stairlifts: Making The Smart Choice

The first step in making sure you’re making a smart Stairlift decision is to make sure you’re in charge of the process. Remember: you have the freedom to choose the company you want to work with! You don’t need to feel obligated to a door-to-door vendor or a high-pressure salesperson referred by a friend of a friend. Reputable stairlift vendors in Rhode Island operate the way normal businesses do: with a showroom, professional trained sales staff that can help you assess your own family’s needs, and no high-pressure or intimidating sales tactics.

It’s totally okay that you have questions or concerns about getting a stairlift installed in your Rhode Island home. Ask questions! A reputable stairlift vendor will be happy to answer your questions, and actually know the answers. If a salesperson brushes off your questions, gets irate with you for asking, or says “I don’t know” to almost every question, these are red flag signs that you may be dealing with an unscrupulous vendor!

There was only one problem with Chloe’s plan. Stanley wasn’t having any part of it. “I understand my daughter’s position, but this is my home. I’ve lived in this house since 1965, and I’m not about to move.” He shook his head. “I guess you can say I’m stuck in my ways. I love my daughter, and I love my grandchildren, but it would be better if we didn’t all live in the same house.”

A family meeting ensued, and then there was a visit to Stanley’s opthalomologist. The doctor confirmed that Stanley has macular degeneration, a vision problem which contributed directly to the previous fall. When you can’t see the stairs, it’s hard to climb the stairs safely. A plan was made. “If Dad can get up and down the stairs safely on his own, I’m willing to go along with his staying in his own home.” Chloe is no less stubborn than her father. “Otherwise, he’s coming home with me.”

Working together, Chloe and Stanley researched their options. Bruno Stairlifts soon captured their interest. In Massachusetts, Bruno Stairlifts are used by many people who have cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, or other severe vision problems to make using the stairs safely easy. Rather than climb the stairs, and possibly falling, all a person has to do is sit in the comfortable chair and press a button. The Bruno Stairlift glides up and down the staircase.

Bruno stairlifts can be installed on straight and curved walls. They operate dependably, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There are Bruno Stairlifts for interior and exterior applications.

“I love my Bruno Stairlift,” Stanley said. “I don’t have any concern now about going upstairs.”

“No more falls!” Chloe agreed. “Talk about peace of mind!”

“My sister complains because her kids are on the couch all day, playing video games.” Melodie J., who lives outside Hartford, shakes her head and laughs. “I wish I had that problem.” Melodie’s son Stan broke his leg in three places and shattered his hip while snowboarding. “That’s this year,” Melodie said. “Last year, it was skiing. He says he wants a skateboard. I’m not sure it’s the best idea he’s ever had.”

One great idea Melodie had was investing in a National Ramp System wheelchair ramp for her home. “We rent this place, and my landlord didn’t want us to do anything that would permanently alter the place – I can’t say that I blame her! But with Stan in a wheelchair, things were getting tricky.” National Ramp Systems wheelchair ramps are designed for easy installation and removal. Made of durable aluminum, they can be put up in an afternoon, and provide years of reliable, safe access to the home. When the ramp is no longer needed, the ramp can be taken down.

The portable nature of National Ramp Systems make them the wheelchair ramp of choice for families who plan on moving. “You don’t want to invest in a ramp and have to leave it behind,” Melodie said. “Hopefully, we’ll never need it again – but considering that Stan has this determination to try every extreme sport possible, I’m not so sure!”

There are many reasons why families need wheelchair ramp installed in Connecticut. Sport injuries can leave kids confined to a wheelchair for a short period of time. Other families are confronted with illness or injuries that require the ongoing use of a wheelchair. In these instances, it’s good to know that a National Ramp System provides the durability and quality construction essential for four seasons of Connecticut weather. Heavy duty aluminum provides sturdy, safe support all year round.

This is the time of year when we make plans to ensure that next year is even better than this one. What are the life changes you can make that make your days easier, safer, and more fun?

One easy way to improve your quality of life is having a Surehands Lift System installed in your Rhode Island home. You may already be familiar with Surehands lift systems from your doctor’s office or the hospital. These quiet, dependable machines help people (either on their own or with the assistance of a caregiver) perform everyday tasks that limited mobility makes difficult: getting in and out of bed, in and out of wheelchairs, bathing, or moving across a room. There are many types of Surehands lift systems, as different people have different assistance needs.

There are many benefits to having a Surehands lift system installed in your home. First and foremost is the freedom that a Surehands lift system provides. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is: your Surehands lift system is available 24/7, 365 days a year. This is a boon for seniors who live alone. Having a Surehands lift system installed makes independent living easier.

The use of a Surehands Lift System reduces the risk of injury to yourself and to your caregiver: the lift system takes care of the lifting. The safe, secure ride means no slips or falls; the mechanical assist means no sprained backs or sore muscles. That’s good news for everyone.

Surehands Lift Systems are dependable. If you have a Surehands Lift System installed in Rhode Island, you can enjoy the peace of mind of knowing the Lift and Care Systems team is nearby. We’re here to make sure you’re completely satisfied with your lift system. 2012 can be a great year!

“At the beginning of every year, I sit down and plan out all of my expenses for the next twelve months.” Mira M., who lives outside Somerville, nodded. “It’s a system that’s worked for the past seventy years! I see no reason to change it now.” One of the proposed items for the 2012 budget? A Stairlift.

“I’m not sure I really need one, but the children are worried.” Last year, Mira had tripped when coming downstairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. She’d sprained her ankle – an injury that took her much longer than she expected to recover from. “Anyone can slip and fall – but I really don’t want to go through that experience again!”

Many common health conditions experienced by seniors, including arthritis, gout, bursitis, and Parkinson’s, can make it difficult to maintain your balance, especially on uneven terrain, such as stairs. Deteriorating vision can also make the stairs difficult. This is important for seniors who have glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy or similar conditions.

Massachusetts Stairlift

If you are trying to decide whether or not a stairlift is right for you, consider the following questions:

Do you feel safe and secure when you use the stairs?

Do you feel steady on your feet and well-balanced while going up stairs?

Is going downstairs easy and effortless?

Have you experienced any difficulty using your stairs?

Have you had any falls, slips, or near-falls while using the stairs?

Have you found yourself avoiding making trips up or down stairs until you couldn’t put it off any longer?

Do you find yourself missing out on things you want to do because you don’t want to climb the stairs?

Does climbing the stairs make you feel winded, short of breath, or exhausted?

Does using the stairs cause pain to your knees, ankles, hips, or legs?

Is it easy to see the stairs?

Do you have difficulty navigating the stairs in low light conditions, such as early in the morning or late at night?

Have others expressed concern about you using the stairs.
