Rhode Island Senior Spotlight: Stairlifts

Rhode Island Senior Spotlight: StairliftsLife wasn’t meant to be lived indoors.  Life in Rhode Island means being treated to the finest of Nature’s beauty. Right now, we’re headed into the pyrotechnic glories of autumn. Winter treats us to a snowy blanket, while spring brings the glories of fresh blooms in the garden. And summer in Rhode Island – are there any words to describe it?

You don’t have to see it all through the window.  You can get out of the house and into nature safely and easily, by using a Bruno Vertical Platform lift.  Vertical platform lifts can be used by people who use wheelchairs, people who use walkers or canes, or people who can stand independently but find it safer not to use the stairs.

A vertical platform lift is a special type of stairlift.  There are many types of stairlifts: you’ll hear people refer to chairlifts or stair-chairs. In these types of stairlifts, a person sits in a chair which then ascends or descends the stairs. Stairlifts can be installed on straight or curved walls.  Most chairlifts are designed to be installed indoors, although there are a few rugged models designed for outdoor use.

Vertical platform lifts are sometimes called porch lifts.  They are used to bring a person who uses a wheelchair from the ground to a deck, porch, or level floor. This makes getting in and out of the house easier. It doesn’t have to be difficult to get into the great outdoors!

Many people prefer using a vertical platform lift to a wheelchair ramp.  For some people, it’s a matter of preferring to remain level while ascending and descending.  Using a vertical platform lift allows them to feel safer and more in control. Another reason that some people prefer vertical platform lifts is that they take up less space than a wheelchair ramp would.
